Annick Donat on the importance of supporting small business

This week on After Hours, Annick Donat, chief executive of Madison Financial Group shares her thoughts on why small businesses form the backbone of Australia’s economy and what licensees should be doing to better support and enable these practices to provide great advice.

In a two-part conversation, Donat also discusses with After Hours co-hosts, former FPA chief executive Mark Rantall and No More Practice creator Vanessa Stoykov, the importance of sticking to her values, and how she’s forged a career in a predominantly male-dominated industry.

“I fundamentally believe that great advice changes lives,” Donat says.

“So if I’m going to stay in this industry, then my role is to make sure those small business owners can get up every day and give great advice.

“I will never understand why people in our industry, in institutions, do not understand that we serve small business owners and why there isn’t a sense of urgency in helping them if there’s a mistake in their revenue run or an administrative error.”

Donat also shares how a personal tragedy early on in her career taught her the most valuable leadership lessons and how she still applies these to this day.

“Annick’s passion for the value of advice comes from hard life experience,” Stoykov says.

“This has led her to become the resilient leader she is today and drives her to help as many advisers as she can reach the Australian public.

“Both Mark and I very much enjoyed exploring her views, frustrations and insights into the future; because Annick is also very much a predictor of things to come.”

Annick Donat’s After Hours episodes will be released Wednesday 3rd May at 8:30pm. Register here to receive the notification about the full episodes and watch the trailer for the conversation here.
